Unfinished: Yang Shuhui Collections

An Album Inspired by Hitchcock's Rear Window

To dig the deepest curiosity of the viewer, the name of the paintings is mentioned three times in the book. However, every painting is on a folding page, so the viewer has to open every page to see what the painting with an odd title is actually about, such as "Toad's oil." "Peeking" is the main idea of the design, creating a sense of anticipation and discovery.

The album is made using paper and features a cover with digital print and 300 gsm kraft paper. The first page is printed on 300 gsm matte coated paper, while the text is printed on 120 gsm matte coated paper. The pictures are printed on 105 gsm WFUC paper. The binding is done using advanced glue binding with nails, ensuring durability and a seamless reading experience.

This unique album combines elements of a catalog, an album, and an illustration collection. The folding pages add an interactive element, inviting the viewer to engage with the artwork and explore the hidden paintings. The design challenges the traditional format of a book, creating a visual and tactile experience that captures the viewer's curiosity.

The project took 40 days to complete in Hangzhou, showcasing the dedication and craftsmanship of the designer, LYU Wei. The album was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017 for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity. This prestigious award recognizes designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
